Joan Andrews Crowder of Halifax died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019. She was born in Halifax County on June 10, 1948 and was 70 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Charlie Donald Andrews and the late Mary East Andrews. She was married to Charles Weatherford Crowder who survives.

She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, taking care of her children, grandchildren and others.

Mrs. Crowder is survived by her husband, Charles W. Crowder of Halifax; one son, C.W. Crowder and wife Christy of South Boston; one daughter, Jennifer Chappell of Halifax; her siblings Wayne Andrews of Halifax and Peggy Walker of South Boston; and four grandchildren, Sara and Samantha Tysinger and Kendall and Brett Crowder.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimberly Tysinger, and siblings Alease Stephens, Raye Henderson, Ruby Betterton, J.T. Andrews, Ralph Andrews, Ollis Andrews and Randolph Andrews.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Ridge Cullum officiating. The family will receive friends Friday, one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
