Joan Annetta Carden of Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Duke University Medical Center at the age of 48. Born in Patterson, New Jersey on Oct. 24, 1962 to Robert Louis Johnson and Joan Miller Johnson, she was a member of Owens Grove Baptist Church and was employed at GKN Automotive.

Ms. Carden is survived by two sons, Devonas Johnson and fiancé Alexis Sinclair of Norfolk and DeAundre Carver of South Boston, a granddaughter, Jaliyah Johnson, her parents, Robert and Joan M. Johnson, a sister, Sandra Leigh and husband Preston of South Boston, a brother, Rodney Johnson and wife Patrice of Jacksonville, N.C., three nieces, a nephew and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends including the devoted Greg Carver, Venus Gorham, Peggy Jackson and Johnnie Crowder.

A funeral for Ms. Carden will be held Sunday, May 22 at 3 p.m. at Owens Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home and at all other times at the residence, 1130 Cherry Hill Church Road, South Boston.
