Obituaries Joan Florence WhittSoVaNow.com / January 11, 2021
Joan Florence Whitt, 79, of Nathalie, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021. She was born in White Plains, N.Y. on Aug. 31, 1941, daughter of the late John B. Whitt,Sr. and the late Florine Pierce Whitt and she attended Beth Car Baptist Church. Joan was a member of the Virginia Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, Halifax Woman’s Club, Southside Master Gardener Association, Herb Club, Halifax County Historical Society, Berryman Green Chapter of D.A.R., volunteered with Crossing of the Dan and was active member of the Y.M.C.A. and a Sentara Halifax Hospital Volunteer. Ms. Whitt is survived by her cousins, Mary D. Dalman of Zeeland, Mich., and Agnes Gregory of Halifax and a host of extended family and friends, including special friends John T. and Vicentia Jennings of Nathalie, Wayne D. Jennings of Nathalie and Bob and Nancy Naujelis of Forest. She was preceded in death by her brother, John R. Whitt Jr. Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at Liberty Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Eldridge Cullum officiating. The service was livestreamed via Powell Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
