Joan “Nancy” Clay Duque of South Boston died Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston. She was born Sept. 19, 1949 in Person County, N.C. and was 61 years old. She was the daughter of the late Noel Duncan Clay and the late Virginia Bass Clay and was married to Rupurto Duque who survives. She was a member of the Freedom Worship Center.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Duque is survived by two daughters, Mary Serrano and husband Vicente of Oak Level and Shirley Harris of South Boston, one son, Ronnie Hayes Jr. and wife Isabell of Dallas, one step-son, Brandon Duque of South Boston, twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving are three sisters. Rose Curry and Virginia Comer, both of Halifax and Barbara Whitt of Roxboro, and a special friend, Marcy Mariano.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Overton, Noel, Roger, Shirley and Carl Junior and two sisters, Frances Clay and Carrie Stanley.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 22, at 3 p.m. at the Conner Family Cemetery in Oak Level with the Rev. Ricky Whitlow officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter, Mary Serrano, 3625 Oak Level Road, Vernon Hill.
