Obituaries

John Edward Hamlett

John Edward Hamlett, affectionately known as “Bro Rabbit,” of Alton Post Office Road, Alton died at his residence on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at the age of 73. Born in Halifax County on March 22, 1939 to the late John Cliff Hamlett and Sallie Jane Crowder Hamlett, he was married to Maxine Bailey Hamlett and was a member of Owens Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Hamlett is survived by his wife of the home, two daughters, Sharron Anderson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Sheryl Faulkner and husband Michael of South Boston, two sons, Cyrus Hamlett and wife Frederica of Durham, N.C., and John C. Hamlett of Alton, six grandchildren, one great grandchild, a brother, Mr. Lawrence Hamlett and wife, Sandra of Sedalia, N.C., Mrs. Vivian Drumwright, who was raised as his sister, eight sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the devoted Robert Clay. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hamlett was preceded in death by two sisters, MVeleria Taylor and Dorothrea Hamlett and a brother, Bernard Hamlett.

A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m. at Owens Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John M. Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

\The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1210 Alton Post Office Road, Alton, Va.

Funeral services are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
