Obituaries John Edwin PalmerSoVaNow.com / May 09, 2019
John Edwin “Jack” Palmer, 83, of Halifax County, died Sunday, May 5, 2019. He was born in Halifax County on July 11, 1935, son of the late John Edwin Sr. and the late Eddie Mae Harper Palmer. He was married to the late June Redford Palmer and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mr. Palmer is survived by his children, Janet Palmer Kirkland (Jim) of Hendersonville, N.C., John Richard Palmer (Veronica) of South Boston; eight grandchildren, Anna Kirkland, Lucy Kirkland, Serenity Schafer, Isak Schafer, Tabitha McCubbins, Jessica Sweeney, Isabella Jackson and Eleana Roberts; one great-grandchild, Carter Sweeney; his companion of many years, Mary Gordon and her children, Catrina Roberts (Ryan) and Robert Jackson (Robin). He was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Declan Palmer Price, a sister, Sarah Palmer and half-brother, Don Hart. A funeral was held Wednesday, May 8, at 3 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Merchant and Jim Kirkland officiating. Burial followed in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to service at Powell Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Virginia Wildlife Association, 3118 N.
