John Lee Faulkner, 87, of Virgie Cole Road, South Boston, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019 at Sentara Woodview. He was born in Halifax County on May 9, 1932, son of the late Mary Elizabeth Faulkner and was married to Elder Dorothy Satterfield Faulkner. He was a member of New Ephesus Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Faulkner is survived by his children, Doris S. Faulkner (John Cedric) of Vernon Hill, Lisa F. Woodall (Charles), Jennifer F. Carter (Stan) of Farmville and a daughter from a previous marriage, Gloria Faulkner of Baltimore, Md., 11 grandchildren, one adopted granddaughter, 25 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Pamela H. Faulkner of Deridder, La., two brothers, Charlie Ferrell (Lily) and Roosevelt Ferrell, all of Newport News; four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Robert Faulkner, one daughter, Belinda Guill S. Chappell, one grandson, Charles “Scooter” Woodall, one great-grandson, James Oscar Chappell VI and two sisters, Essie Carrington and Carrie F. Sanford.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Aug. 29, 1 p.m. at New Ephesus Baptist Church with Alan Graves as eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing was held Wednesday at Jeffress Funeral Home, where the family received friends from 6-7 p.m.
