John Thomas Hastings Sr.

John Thomas Hastings Sr., 78, of South Boston, formerly of Scottsburg, died Monday, April 22, 2013 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on Oct. 30, 1934, a son of the late Oscar Samuel Hastings and Patty Smith Hastings and was a farmer and truck driver.

He is survived by two daughters, Shelly Hastings Whitlow and husband Ricky of Halifax and Kimberly Ann Hastings of Scottsburg; two sons, John Thomas (Tommy) Hastings Jr. and wife Brenda of Clover and Warren Joseph (Joey) Hastings and wife Donna of Scottsburg; his former wife, Shirley Womack Hastings of Scottsburg; grandchildren, John Thomas Hastings, III, Jennifer Crenshaw and husband Michael, Ricky Whitlow and wife Samantha, Ashley Gravitt and Shane, Matt Hastings, Lindsey and Mike Prochaska and great-grandchildren, Peyton and Madisyn Crenshaw, Erika Whitlow and Grace Whitlow.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, April 25 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home with Rev. Dana Cook assisted by Ricky Whitlow Jr. officiating.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at 10113 James D. Hagood Highway, Clover.
