Joseph D. Alderson Jr., 66, of Ridge Street, South Boston died Friday, February 16, 2018. He was born in Halifax County Jan. 2, 1951, a son of the late Joseph Daniel Alderson Sr. and Catherine Marie Combs Alderson. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and for many years was employed at the former Daystrom Furniture Company.

Mr. Alderson is survived by one daughter, Serita Windsor of South Boston; three sons, Roderick Windsor and wife Theresa of Santa Fe, N.M., Travion Alderson and Kalvin Alderson, both of Richmond; two step-children, Lawrence Mitchell of Oakland, CA and Luther Mitchell of Richmond; two sisters, Patsy Ann Lennon and husband Ivan and Loretta Ballou and husband Irven, of South Boston; his step-mother, Ruby Alderson of Red Oak; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Nannie Jackson and two brothers, Samuel Alderson and Augusta Combs.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Bishop Harry J. Betts officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Patsy Ann Lennon, 1550 Ridge Street, South Boston.
