Joseph Davis Mitchell Sr. / January 10, 2019

Joseph Davis Mitchell Sr., 82, of Summit Drive, South Boston died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at Sentara Meadowview Terrace. He was born in Halifax County on Oct. 30, 1936, son of the late Mary Jeffress and Guss Mitchell and was married to June Mitchell.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Mitchell is survived by one son, Joseph Mitchell (Tiffany) of South Boston; two daughters, Katina Powell (Michael) and Sandra Powell (Lawrence), all of Scottsburg; two step-daughters, Erica Mitchell of the home and Felicia Mitchell of New York; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; one brother, Beverly Mitchell (Doreather) of Alexandria and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Sam Marcus Mitchell and one step-daughter, Nikki Mitchell.

A funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 12, 11 a.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Morris Mitchell, eulogist.

Public viewing will be Friday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5-6 p.m. and other times at his home, 300 Summit Drive, South Boston.
