Obituaries

Joseph George DeShazo

Joseph George DeShazo of East Hyco Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at his residence at the age of 80. Born in Woodsdale, N.C., on Sept. 25, 1932 to the late John Henry DeShazo and Lottie Whitt DeShazo, he was first married to the late Nannie Faulkner DeShazo and later married Lucy Leigh DeShazo. Mr. DeShazo was a United States Navy veteran and served on the board of deacons at St. James Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mercedes DeShazo and husband Bruce of Sterling, three sons, Joseph O. DeShazo and wife, Pamela of Durham, N.C., Barry DeShazo and wife Jenny of Frederick, Md., Terry DeShazo and wife, Sharon of Creedmore, N.C., a sister, Maggie Benjamin and husband Levi of Jacksonville, Fla., a brother, Sylvester DeShazo and wife, Phyllis of Baltimore, Md., six grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church in Scottsburg with the Rev. Byrd B. Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 99.

Public viewing for family and friends will be on Friday, Feb. 15 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the residence on East Hyco Road, Virgilina.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
