Obituaries

Joseph L. Jones Jr.

Joseph L. Jones Jr., 74, of Henderson, N.C. entered eternal rest on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Jones was born in New York City on Aug. 31, 1938 to the late Joseph and Clara Mitchell Jones. He was a graduate of Dewitt Clinton High School, Manhattan, N.Y., and attended Calvary Baptist Church, Victoria. Mr. Jones was a veteran the U.S. Marine Corps and retired in 1971 after 6 years of service. He was formerly employed by Fairchild Republic Aircraft, where he was a station clerk in charge of aviation and supplies.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, one brother and one sister.

Cherishing his memories are his wife, Anita Ballard-Jones of Henderson, N.C., six children, Steven Jones (Shirley) of Suitland, Md., Clarissa Jones of Temple Hills, Md., Darlene Green (Craig) of Washington, DC, Thomasina Hurtt and Michael Jones (Kristi) both of Henderson, N.C., and Carmena Murphy of Orlando, Fla., numerous grandchildren; mother-in-law Alice Parker of Victoria, sister-in-law Anna Jackson of Victoria, a devoted niece, Adele Phillips and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. William Moore, officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will received friends on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
