Joyce Marie Ragsdale Hankins

Joyce Marie Ragsdale Hankins, 79, of River Road, South Boston, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2017 at Sentara Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on Oct. 24, 1938, daughter of the late James Ragsdale and Emma P. Miller Ragsdale. She was married to the late Clifton Hankins, Sr. and was a member of Berry Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hankins is survived by one daughter, Claudette H. Lipscomb of Halifax; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Frances R. Daniel and husband Clifton of Halifax and Ramona Edmonds of South Boston; four brothers, John Ragsdale of Halifax, Malcolm Ragsdale and wife Bernice and William G. Ragsdale, all of South Boston and Henry Lee Ragsdale of Philadelphia, one daughter-in-law, Peggy Hankins of South Boston; other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clifton Hankins Jr. and a brother, Earl Ragsdale.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 28, 1 p.m. at Berry Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Ronnie Haynes officiating and Rev. Willie N. Yancey eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing was held Wednesday, Dec. 27 at Jeffress Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Frances and Clifton Daniel, 3105 Ballpark Loop, Halifax.
