Julius Riley “Joe” Barksdale, 81, of South Boston, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019. He was born in Halifax County on June 3, 1938, son of the late Julius R. Barksdale and the late Leida R. Boyd. He was married to Margaret Wilborn Barksdale, who survives, and was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Barksdale is survived by three sons, David Barksdale and wife Judy of South Boston, Michael Barksdale of South Boston and Mark Barksdale and wife Tammie of South Boston; five grandchildren, Brandon Barksdale, Matthew Barksdale, Amanda Ambrose, Dean Satterfield and Darrin Satterfield and four great-grandchildren; special friend and caregiver, Ruby Wilborn; special niece, Donna Short.

He was preceded in death by siblings, May Vaughan, Doris Thomas, one grandchild, Justin Whitaker and special friend, Robert Briggs.

A funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 22, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at Powell Funeral Home.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
