Karen Denise Hughes

Karen Denise Hughes, 55, of Vernon Hill, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2020. She was born in Halifax County on May 5, 1965, daughter of the late Margie Jean Monroe and Jimmy Hughes (Sue), who survive, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Millstone. Karen was a “Mama” and “Maemae” to everyone; her grandchildren were her world and she never met a stranger.

Ms. Hughes is survived by two daughters, Toni Denise Blanks and fiancé Anthony Allen of Vernon Hill and Samantha Jean Blanks of Richmond; two grandchildren, Dallas Hughes and Tabytha Allen, both of Vernon Hill; siblings, Lynn Hughes of Vernon Hill, Pamela H. Walker and husband Jan of Halifax, Darlene H. Hudson of Halifax, Keith Hughes of Halifax, Michael Hughes and wife Sarah of South Boston, Stacy Hughes and husband Earl of Nathalie and Elizabeth Hughes of Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews and a special loved ones, B.W. Sprouse and Anthony Allen.

She was preceded in death by a nephew, Justin Walker and great niece, Adiana Williams.

Graveside services were held Sunday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Millstone Cemetery with Rev. Ron Rhew and Rev. Barry Fero officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to service at the church.
