Leroy Martin Crawley, 77, of Alton, died Monday, July 15, 2013 at his home.
He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 12, 1935, a son of the late John Emmit Crawley and Gladys Elwyn Martin Crawley and was married to Carol Ann Rupp Crawley. He was a member of Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, a graduate of Halifax County High School and Virginia Tech, worked as a Social Service case worker, Martinsville, juvenile probation officer, Alexandria, counselor with Virginia Vocational Rehabilitation, Alexandria, counselor with Virginia State Correctional Facilities, from which he retired in 1998 and was a U.S. Air Force veteran and a Russian linguist.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Crawley is survived by his children, Kim Leigh Crawley and husband Thomas Killer of Zug, Switzerland, Scott Wayne Crawley and wife Mary of Honolulu, Hawaii, Carla Jeanne C. Ito and husband Teruaki of Tokyo, Japan, Elaine Suzanne C. Seate and husband Christopher, stationed in Korea, Kara Elizabeth C. Kirkpatrick and husband Daniel of Falls Church; grandchildren, Selena Jade and Brett Malynn Seate of Virginia, Andrew Thomas, Wade Robert, Lauren Elizabeth and Graham David Crawley of Honolulu, Hawaii, Maika and Jun Ito of Tokyo, Japan, Daniel Alexander Kirkpatrick of Falls Church; sister-in-law, Pat Crawley, widow of DeWitt, of Aiken, S.C.; beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Emmit Crawley Jr. and wife Ruth and Ernest DeWitt Crawley.
A funeral will be held Saturday, July 20 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronnie Pizzeck officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Friday from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home, 4218 Cluster Springs Road, South Boston.
