Man sentenced to year in prison on drug count

Ten arrested, seven more sought in drug, firearms sweep

A long-term investigation has resulted in the arrest of 10 individuals in the Southside Virginia region on approximately 31 drug and firearm charges.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office has identified Jessica Stroud, 35, of Waynesboro as the victim in a July 6 death in La Crosse that police describe as suspicious.

Lettie Magdalene Robertson Perkins

Lettie Magdalene Robertson Perkins, 96, of Virgilina Road, Virgilina died Friday, Oct. 5, 2018 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on Aug. 11, 1922, a daughter of the late Julia Ann Robertson. She was married to the late Tyree Perkins and was a member of Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Perkins is survived by two daughters, Dorothy King of Virgilina and Gladys Banks (Joe) of Roxboro, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, two grandsons, one great-grandchild, one great-great-grandson, three sisters and one brother.

A funeral will be held Thursday, Oct. 11, at 2 p.m. at Blue Wing Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Graham Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing was Wednesday from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 3063 Virgilina Road, Virgilina.
