Lindbergh Israel Coles, 79, of South Boston died Friday, Dec. 24, 2010 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Halifax County on Dec. 10, 1931, a son of the late Hobart Coles and Lou Fannie Hendricks Coles. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church and was retired from Richards Manufacturing Company.

He is survived by two children, Marjorie Coles-Acey and Israel Coles Jr., two grandsons, Jarrett Acey and Kyle Coles; two brothers, Hobart Coles Jr. and Conwell Coles; his ex-wife and friend, Gonnie Dixon Coles; five step-children, five step-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Heyward, Nemit Lloyd, Edison, Cubie and Arnette Coles.

A funeral will be held today at 11 a.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Willie N. Yancey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
