Margaret Castle Hudgins Elam, age 89, of Chase City, passed away on May 6, 2010 in Richmond.

She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Jo Sneed and husband Jerry of Houston, Texas and Betty Jane Vermilya and husband Walter of Richmond, nine grandchildren, Heath Sneed of Chase City, Martha Sneed of Seoul, South Korea, Emily Sneed of Houston, Texas, Scott Keel of Prague, Czech Republic, Bill Keel, Grant Keel, Margaret “Mimi” Keel, all of Richmond, Walter Vermilya of Newport News and John Vermilya of Richmond, eight great-grandchildren, Paul Underwood, Elizabeth Lindsey, Ashley Sneed, Jonathan Sneed, Matthew Farr, Joshua Farr, Jane Farr, and Tristan Keel and one great-great-grandchild, Siena Lindsey.

She was predeceased by her husband John Stuart Elam. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.

She was a charter member of the Chase City Chapter Order of Eastern Star #147. Visitation was held on Monday, May 10, 2010 from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. A funeral immediately followed at 2 p.m. at the Newcomb Allgood Funeral Home chapel. Interment will follow at Bethany Baptist Church.
