Marie Lethian Crowley

Marie Lethian Crowley, 89, of Chase City, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018 at her residence.

Mrs. Crowley was born in Halifax County, Dec. 22, 1928 to the late Archie Smith and Sallie Carden. She attended the schools of Halifax County, and worked various jobs. She was a member of St. Luke Baptist Church, Skipwith, and a homemaker.


Cherishing her memories are two daughters, Rebecca Crawley of Chase City, and Minnie Wylie of Albany, N.Y., four sons, Herman Crawley Sr. (Debra) and Matthew Crawley,Sr. (Taunya) all of Chase City, Fletcher Crawley (Theresa) of Crewe, and Albert Crawley Sr. (Sharon) of Boydton, 26 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, three great-great-great grandchildren; one sister, Rose Marie Simms; two daughters-in-law, Dorothy Crawley and Anna Crawley; two adopted children, Abner and Ruth Overby, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Crowley Sr.; three sons, Joe Lewis, Thomas Lee and William Henry Crawley, and three brothers, Jack Carden, Mathis Carden and Clyde Smith.

A funeral will be held Friday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church, Skipwith with Rev. Franklin Watson II officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be held Thursday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
