Marie Mitchell Womack of Wagstaff Lane, Scottsburg died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011 at South Boston Manor at the age of 89. Born in Halifax County on Nov. 8, 1921 to the late Gene Mitchell and LeAnna Coleman Mitchell, she was married to the late Jessie Lee Womack Sr. She was a member of the Spanish Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Womack is survived by two daughters, Agnes Sydnor of Scottsburg and Alberta Jones of Baltimore, Md., five sons, Isador Womack of Richmond, Gregory Womack, Michael Womack, Enoch Womack and Charlie Womack, all of Scottsburg, 26 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, a sister, Laura Coleman of Halifax, six daughters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Womack was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Canada and Edna Womack, two sons, Jessie Womack Jr. and Jerry Womack, nine grandchildren, two sisters and four brothers.

A funeral for Mrs. Womack will be held Monday, Feb. 14 at 11 a.m. at Spanish Grove Baptist Church with the Ronnie Womack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Agnes Sydnor, 1143 Wagstaff Lane, Scottsburg.
