Martha Betterton “Polly” Langford, 74, of Alton, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017. She was born in Halifax County on May 15, 1943, a daughter of the late John Thomas Betterton, Sr. and Lena McCormick Betterton Saunders. She was married to the late Beverly Wayland Langford and was a member of Winns Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Renee Fallen Walker and husband Joe of Zebulon, N.C., and Shawnee Irby Francis of Halifax; one son, Jeffrey “Scottie” Fallen and wife Cindy of Sandy Hook; seven grandchildren, Shana Hetzell, Codi Francis, Isaac Walker, Dakota Hopkins, Taylor Hopkins, Olivia and Ashlee Fallen; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rebecca Ferrell and husband J.T. of Wake Forest, N.C., Brenda McDowell and husband Tommy of South Boston, Claire Ferris and husband Mike of Roxboro, N.C., and Penny Cox and husband Bobby of Alton; and her brother, John Thomas Betterton Jr. and wife Bonnie of Clayton, N.C.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Michael, Ricky and Johnny Betterton.

A funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 2, 2 p.m. at Winns Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Kopco officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends Friday, Dec. 1 at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at 2147 Union Grove Road, South Boston.
