Mary Ada Murray Shotwell of Virgilina died Feb. 14, 2011 at MeadowView Terrace, Clarksville. She was born Dec. 31, 1918 in Virgilina, a daughter of the late Cabel Flournoy Murray and Emily Bell Tuck Murray and was married to the late James Buchanan “J.B.” Shotwell Sr. She was a member of Union Christian Church and a graduate of Virgilina High School.

She is survived by one son, William C. Shotwell and wife Mary Ann of Virgilina; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Shotwell Smith and husband Ernest Liddell Smith of Rome, Ga. grandchildren, Ruth Anne Phillips Smith and husband David, Andrew and Patrick Smith; great-grandchildren, Keipris Lee Smith, Caleb Buchanan Smith, Elijah Vance Smith; and a brother, Fraser Murray. She was preceded in death by a son, James Buchanan Shotwell, Jr., an infant daughter, sisters Selma Rice and Ruth Tuck and brothers Herman Murray, Solomon Murray and Leon (Cook) Murray.

A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at Union Christian Church with burial to follow in Virgilina Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Virgilina Volunteer Fire Department, P.O.
