Mary “Sis” Stephens Younger, Meadville Road, Halifax died on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 82. She was born May 21, 1935 in Halifax County, daughter of the late Charlie Irvin Stephens and Lucy Polly Tucker Stephens. She was married to Thomas Mack Younger and was a member of Elkhorn Baptist Church.

Mrs. Younger is survived by her husband, Thomas Mack Younger of the home; four daughters, Debra Wyatt and husband Douglas, Diane Sampson and husband Tony and Phyllis Brooks, all of Durham, NC, and Twanee Sabb of Halifax; three sons, James Junior Brooks and wife Lisa, and Dimetri White, all of Halifax and Darrion White of Durham, N.C.; nine grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren; three sisters, Rosa Logan of Rockhill, SC, Ethel Venable and husband Charles of Halifax, Geraldine Norwood of Tampa, Fla., three brothers, Roy Stephens and Jerome Brooks, both of Halifax and Clyde Brooks of South Boston; one brother-in-law, Herman Younger and Rose; two sisters-in-law, Inez Younger and husband Earl and Bessie Younger; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Six brothers, Robert Stephens, Eddie Stephens, McArthur Stephens, Harold Stephens, Billy Stephens and Michael Brooks and one sister, Geneva Jones, preceded her in death.

A funeral will be held Friday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Elkhorn Baptist Church with Rev. Voight Hairston officiating. Burial will follow in Banister Hill C.M.E. Church Cemetery.

Public viewing will be Thursday, July 6, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 2231 Meadville Road, Halifax.
