Mildred “Jean” Garrett Harris, 75, of Chase City, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 in Chase City.

Born in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Millard and Virginia Turner Garrett. She was retired as a secretary with Huss trucking and a member of First Baptist Church.

She is survived her husband, William Cary “Moe” Harris of Chase City, son, William Cary “Moe” Harris, Jr. of Chase City, daughter Mitzi DeJarnette and husband Ray, of Red Oak, two sisters: Betty Smith of Henderson, NC and Lucille Keller of Richmond, two brothers, Charles Garrett of Henderson, NC and Harold Garrett of Plano, Texas, three grandchildren: Melissa Tharpe of Red Oak, Matt DeJarnette and wife, Kristen of South Hill and Mitch DeJarnette of Red Oak, one great-grandchild, Addison Tharpe and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: James Garrett and Bobby Garrett.

A funeral was held Tuesday, June 15, in the chapel of Newcomb-Allgood Funeral Home.

Interment followed in Woodland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
