Naomi Coleman Carden of Scottsburg died Monday, Oct. 20, 2014 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 84. Born in Halifax County on March 28, 1930 to the late Ernest Coleman and Fannie Mosley Coleman, she was married to the late Levi Edward Carden Sr. and was a member of Spanish Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Carden is survived by two daughters, Deborah C. Washington and husband, James R. of Charlottesville and Lola C. Boyd and husband, Joel of Virginia Beach. Four sons, Levi Carden Jr. and wife Paulette, Larry D. Carden and wife, Patricia, A. Carden and wife Aleece, all of Scottsburg and Calvin O. Carden and wife Gladys of Clover, 15 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, four sisters, Mary Robinson of New York, Leatha McAdoo of South Boston, Fannie G. Allen of Baltimore, Md., and Vastena Overton of Browns Mills, N.J., two sisters-in-law, Geanea M. Coleman and Gladys Coleman and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the devoted Irene Powell.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Sallie Haskins, Lillian Bailey, Jessie Franks and Rosa Smith, five brothers, Phillip Coleman, Ernest Coleman, Jr., Levi Coleman, Frank Coleman,Sr. and Genight Coleman.

A funeral will be conducted on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. at Spanish Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Womack officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 1191 Allen Trail, Scottsburg.

Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday, Oct. 24 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.
