Ray Turner Jr., 81, of Halifax, died Tuesday, July 21, 2020.

He was born in Ahoskie, N.C., on Dec. 17, 1938, son of the late Ray Turner Sr. and the late Ruth Clary Turner. He was married to “Lynn” Barrett Turner, who survives. He was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church, where he served with the Methodist Men. Ray retired from Nationwide Insurance after 31 years. Upon his retirement, he began serving his community by volunteering at the South Boston-Halifax County Museum, and Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital. He was also a member of Dan River Ruritan Club and American Legion Post 8 Honor Guard. He and Lynn loved to travel and square dance in their spare time. Ray will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of 55 years, “Lynn” Barrett Turner of Halifax; his children, Kim T. Burnett (Douglas) of Midlothian and Philip Anthony Turner (Wendy) of Cary, N.C.; two grandchildren, Asa Ryan Burnett and Eric Anthony Burnett; siblings, Audrey T. Waller of South Boston and Floyd Wayne Turner of Suffolk.

A funeral will be held Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bobbie Henley and Rev. Sylvester Crawley officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Due to the concerns over COVID-19 and with the health and wellness of everyone in mind, we request that everyone attending please wear a mask.
