Rosa Owen Powell of South Boston died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017 at the Roman Eagle Rehab and Healthcare Center. She was born April 23, 1929 in Halifax County and was 88 years old. She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Owen and the late Jenny Canada Owen and was married to the late Joseph McCarter Powell.

She was a member of the Centerville Baptist Church where she was one of the original founders and served as treasurer for many years. She retired from Burlington Industries.

Mrs. Powell is survived by a son, Barry Carter Powell and wife Ashley of Danville, a granddaughter, Lauren Nicole Daniel of South Boston, four step-grandsons, Casey Waller, Bobby Waller, Caleb Shelton and Caiden Shelton.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Powell Cumbie, three sisters, Jeanette Ligon, Mabel Hudson and Ruby O. Watts and seven brothers, Herbert, Billy, Frank, John, Clyde, Earl and Pat Owen.

A funeral will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at the Centerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd McClure and the Rev. Dan Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 4, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her son, 5009 Ridgewood Drive, Danville.
