Rose Lane Smiley Compton

Rose Lane Smiley Compton, 75, of Scottsburg, died Sunday, July 28, 2019. She was born in Halifax County on July 27, 1944, daughter of the late James Godfrey Smiley and the late Gladys Nichols Smiley. She was married to Tommy Compton, was a member of Clover Baptist Church, where she played on the softball team, participated in Mission trips and served as Sunday school teacher. She loved bingo and was a beautician for many years.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Compton is survived by two daughters, Kimberly W. Fisher of Scottsburg, Tina Elms (Will) of Gordonsville; grandchildren, Christopher Fisher (Ashley), Jonathan Fisher, Olivia Diane Elms, Tyler Morris, Jordan Morris, Jillian Reagan (Ryan) and Alex Mulberry; great-grandchildren, Khloe Fisher, Annaleigh Fisher, Levi Fisher, Bryson Fisher, Madison Fisher, Liam Morris, Breken Reagan; siblings, Diane S. Powell of South Boston, Jimmy Smiley (Solvi) of Clover and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Morris and a brother-in-law, Runt Powell.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, July 31 at 11 a.m. at Clover Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Walker officiating. The family received friends following the service and other times at 8225 J.D. Hagood Highway, Scottsburg.
