Mr. Roy Chester Lowery of 5092 Ramble Road, Virgilina, died Friday, June 4, 2010 at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He was born in Halifax County on April 18, 1922 and was 88 years old at his death. He was the son of the late James Evie Lowery and Annie Mae Cole Lowery and was married to the late Pauline Lewis Lowery. He was a retired farmer, a WWII Army veteran, was a member of the Mt. Cana United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 8, and the VFW Post 8243.

Survivors include a daughter, Connie Lambert and husband Ronnie of Richmond, four sons, Roy G. Lowery and wife Joyce of Virgilina, Eddie Lowery and wife Brenda of Virgilina, Stanley Lowery and wife Karen of Mocksville, N.C., Robert Lowery of Fort Pierce, Fla..

Also surviving are four brothers, Lindy Lowery and Emmitt Lowery, both of Richmond, Weldon Lowery of South Boston, Aubrey Lowery of Virgilina and one sister, Thelma Best of Pensacola, Fla., 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia L. Martin and Nell L. Bowen.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 2 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge Cemetery with military rites.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
