Ruby Irene Wilborn

Ruby Irene Wilborn, 82, of South Boston, died Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020. She was born in Halifax County on Nov. 29, 1937, daughter of the late Robert Harris Wilborn and the late Gaynell Lloyd Wilborn. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church and attended Revelation Baptist Church. She was a strong independent woman with a heart of gold and was loved by all.

Ms. Wilborn is survived by her godson, Mark Barksdale and wife Tammie of South Boston; goddaughter, Donna Short and husband Mark of Nathalie; sisters, Margaret W. Barksdale of South Boston and Mildred Wilborn Probst of Virgilina; five special nephews, David Barksdale, Mike Barksdale, Brandon Barksdale, J.E. Pulliam and Eric Short; great nieces and nephews, Brook Short, Cherokee Short and Cam Short.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Edward Wilborn and Harry Douglas Wilborn, her loving friend of 44 years Robert T. Briggs and brother-in-law, Joe Barksdale.

A funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to service at Powell Funeral Home.
