Ruth Boyden Hummel, wife of the late Ira Lee Cottrell Hummel Jr., died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018. She was born in Salem, N.J., on Oct. 27, 1933 to the late David Boyden and the late Cora Cook Boyden. Ruth was a graduate of Salem High School. She and her husband moved to Clarksville in 1988.

Ruth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Paul Dean of Gibsonville, N.C., Jeanne and Terry Adams of Chase City, and Janet and Pete Taylor of Pink Hill, N.C. Also surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, John Hummel and Lisa Travis of Urbana, Ill., five grandchildren, Jennifer, Tamara, Leah, Natalie and Sam, a great-granddaughter, Lydia and three sisters.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. at Oakhurst Cemetery with the Rev. Jane Lyon officiating. The family received friends after the service.
