Samuel Godfrey Phillips, 73, of Halifax, died Monday, April 9, 2018. He was born in Halifax County on Jan. 12, 1945, son of the late Gilbert Lawrence Phillips and Truly Thomas Phillips. He was married to Carolyn Smith Phillips and was a member of South Boston Church of God.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 35 years, Carolyn S. Phillips; two daughters, Wendy Dawn Phillips of Lynchburg, Danielle Seamster and husband Jerry of Nathalie; three step-children, Tammy Creasy and friend Joe DeRonde of Clover, Jay Creasy and wife Christine of Halifax, Penny Bolin and husband Kenneth of Halifax; 12 grandchildren, Robert Dawson of Nathalie, Dallas Seamster of Nathalie, Cody Seamster and wife Deanna of Rustburg, Jamie Seamster and friend Karen Conner of Halifax, Michelle Johns and friend Clint Hazelwood of Halifax, Hayley Fitch and husband Shane of Halifax, Alexis and Jayden Bolin of Halifax, Austin, Wyatt, Kalee and Jayson Creasy of Halifax; two great-grandchildren, Riley and McKenzie Fitch of Halifax; siblings, Elsie P. Conner of Halifax, Benny Phillips and wife Joyce of North Carolina and Gary Phillips of Halifax; special aunts, Sylvia Thomas and Bertha Phillips, both of South Boston; special niece, Tonia Robertson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Lunsford Phillips, his son, Sammy Jr., siblings Geraldine Collins and Millard Phillips and two grandsons, Joseph Bolin and Michael Johns.

Memorial services were held Friday, April 13, at 7 p.m. at South Boston Church of God with Rev. T. Wayne Daniels officiating. The family received friends Friday one hour prior to the service at South Boston Church of God.
