Samuel William “Sammy” Rogers Jr. of South Boston died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017 at the age of 67. He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 11, 1949, the son of the late Samuel William Rogers, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Satterfield Rogers. Sammy was a 1968 graduate of Halifax County High School and was a mail carrier.

Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanette Thaxton Rogers; two daughters, Tracey Carol Rogers (special friend, John Lee Whitt), and Mary “Beth” Francis; two grandchildren, April Dawn Francis and Blake Neal Francis and numerous other family members.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 2-7 p.m. at the residence, 2112 Vaughan Street. A private funeral service will be held.
