Sanford Jordan

Sanford Jordan of 3023 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston, died Thursday, July 11, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 88. He was born in Halifax County on Aug. 6, 1924 to the late Louis Sanford and Edna Comer Jordan. He was married to the late Marion Elizabeth Younger Jordan and was a member of Dan River View Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Jordan was a World War II US Navy veteran and a member of the American Legion Post 99.

Mr. Jordan is survived by a son, Thurman S. Jordan Sr. and wife, Christine of Ossining, N.Y.; two daughters, Edna G. Everett of Ossining, and Terry Walker of Tulsa, Ok.; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson Jordan and Arthur Jordan and a grandson, Derrick Jordan.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, July 17, at 1 p.m. with services at Dan River View Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Samuel Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for Mr. Sanford will be Tuesday, July 16, from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at the chapel of Jeffress Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service.
