Sara Vernon Solomon, 94, of 1125 Solomon Road, Alton died April 19, 2011 at her home. She was born Jan. 29, 1917 in Halifax County, daughter of the late Trogie Lee Vernon and Glennie Mise Vernon. She was married to the late Richard Frederick Solomon, a member of First Cross Roads Baptist Church, and a retired LPN and homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Sara Faye Solomon Gosney and husband Wallace of Alton; sisters, Lillian V. Gammon of Danville and Evelyn V. McDowell of South Boston; brother, John Vernon of South Boston; three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Florence V. Cole, brothers Robert Vernon and Alvin Vernon, a sister, Margaret V. Solomon, a step-granddaughter and a step-great-grandson.

A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at First Cross Roads Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home.
