Sheila Day Powell, of Glen Allen, died Monday, Aug. 16, 2021 from cancer. She was surrounded by those she dearly loved in the last days of her life. Born and raised in South Boston, she earned an associate’s degree from Phillips Business College, Lynchburg, and built a life in the environs of Richmond. Sheila served for many years as an accounting clerk for Hanover County fire and EMS.

She is survived by her son, Shawn and his spouse Tanya, her daughter, Stephanie and her spouse Lisa, her grandchildren, Kensley, Brianna, Gracie, David and Sonny, and her cousins Edie Staggs, Justin and Christopher Davidson, and their families.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Day and Margaret Kennedy Day and her best friend and cousin, Lynda Day Conner.

A celebration of life took place Aug. 21 at her home in Glen Allen and a graveside service for the family will be held Friday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. in South Boston.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sheila’s honor to the Hanover Crew Foundation.
