Shirley Childress Irby, 80, of Nathalie, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019 at her home. She was born in Campbell County on July 2, 1938, daughter of the late Hubert Childress and the late Emma “Roxie” Childress. She was married to Bentley William Irby Sr., was of the Methodist faith and a retired Halifax County Public School bus driver.

Mrs. Irby is survived by her husband, Bentley William Irby Sr. of Nathalie; one daughter, Penny L. Irby of Nathalie; one son, Bentley W. Irby Jr. of Nathalie; three grandchildren, Samantha M. Hall (Grant) of Salem, Denver W. Milton (Kerry Plank) of Blacksburg and Kristen M. Evans (Zach) of South Hill.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Karen Irby, three sisters and two brothers.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the Halifax County Cancer Association or the American Heart Association.
