Obituaries

Thalia Mills Ragsdale

Thalia Mills Ragsdale of South Boston died Friday, April 19, 2013 at Berry Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 83. Born in Halifax County on Jan. 25, 1930 to the late Howard Mills and Fannie Edmonds Mils, she was married to the late Harvey Ragsdale and was a member of New Vernon Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Doris A. Ragsdale of South Boston, and Nancy Ragsdale of Philadelphia, Pa., six sons, Harvey Lee Ragsdale, Lonnie Ragsdale, Nathaniel Ragsdale and Henry Ragsdale, all of Philadelphia, Leon Ragsdale and wife Doshie of South Boston and Michael Ragsdale of Danville, 21 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one sister, Elizabeth Howerton of Danville, a sister-in-law, Catherine Ragsdale and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Price Ragsdale-Lockett, two sons, John Albert Ragsdale and James Ernest Mills, two sisters, Ida Mae Williams and Ellen Dunn and three brothers, Jake Mills, Nick Mills and Thomas Mills.
A funeral will be held on Thursday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at New Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Jeffress Funeral Home Wednesday from 6-7 p.m. and at all other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon and Doshie Ragsdale, 1623 Ridge Street, South Boston.

Funeral services are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
