Thomas Edward Crutchfield Sr.

Thomas Edward Crutchfield Sr., 83, of Boydton, died Friday, Feb. 21, 2020 at Sentara Meadowview Terrace, Clarksville.


Mr. Crutchfield was born in Mecklenburg County, on March 10, 1936 to the late James Edward and Hazel Mosley Crutchfield. He was a 1955 graduate of West End High School, and at an early age joined Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Mr. Crutchfield was a former truck driver for A.E. Morris Hauling, Inc. In his spare time he enjoyed playing checkers, and was known for his “styling & profiling”.



Cherishing his memories are his wife, Bettye Jean Sands Crutchfield of Clarksville, son, Thomas Crutchfield Jr. of Boydton, daughter, Deborah C. Duncan (Roger) of Boydton, six grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Edith Simms (Alva) of Williamsburg, two sisters-in-law, Geneva Tucker of New Jersey and Shirley Hester of Chase City, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Crutchfield was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Walter and James Crutchfield.

A funeral was held Monday, Feb. 24, at the chapel of C. H. Harris Funeral Home, with Rev. Earl Walker officiating. Burial followed in the Crutchfield family cemetery.
