Mr. Thomas Lee Calloway, 73, of Wooding Road, Sutherlin died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 27, 1936, a son of the late Dewey Calloway and Orphra Lipscomb Calloway. He was married to Alice Harris Calloway and was a member of White Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charlie Calloway of South Boston and Cecil Calloway of Portland, Ore.; five daughters, Edith Venable of South Boston, Stella Calloway of Danville, Sabrina Teeters of Topeka, Kansas, Debra Gibson of Baltimore, Md. and Alise Brooks of Atlanta; one sister, Sallie Samuel of Sutherlin; two brothers, Paul Calloway of Philadelphia, Pa. and Wayne Calloway of Danville; 14 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Veronica Calloway; two sons-in-law, James Venable and Randy Merritt; six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Minnie Merritt and three brothers, John Calloway, James Calloway and Charlie Calloway.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 1 at White Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Melvin Fuller officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
