Thurla Lacks Lacks

Thurla Lacks Lacks of Clover died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017 at her residence at the age of 99. Mrs. Lacks was born in Halifax County Sept. 5, 1918 to the late Ben Lacks and Mary Coleman Lacks. She was married to the late Thomas Coley Lacks and was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church.

Mrs. Lacks is survived by two daughters, Burnell Dismuke and Ruth Jackson, both of Clover; six sons, Robert Lacks, Ben Lacks, Walter Lacks (Hazel), Mr. Jerry Lacks (Wallicia) and Ronnie Lacks (Janice), all of Clover and Larry Lacks (Liz) of South Boston; 22 grandchildren including the devoted Michael Phillips; 36 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Emerson Lacks of Saxe, James “Harry” Lacks of Harlem, N.Y., and Marcellus Lacks (Gloria) of Lynchburg; a son-in-law, Jacob Wilborne; a sister-in-law: Christine Lacks; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by two daughters, Shirley Lacks Wilborne and Amanda Lacks Phillips; a son, Herbert Lacks; three grandchildren, Janet Scott, Arthur Scott, Valeria Lacks Hartley; six siblings, Eliza Richardson, George L. Coleman Davis, John Henry Lacks, Evergie Lacks, Ben Lacks Jr. and Sydney Lacks.

Funeral will be held Monday, Oct. 9 at noon at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. William Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery

Public viewing for family and friends was on Sunday, Oct. 8 from noon-6:p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the residence, 5212 Black Walnut Road, Randolph.
