Virginia Ellen Long Satterfield, 91, of 1007 Piney Grove Road, Alton died April 11, 2011 at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on June 21, 1919, a daughter of the late George Morgan Long and Mannie Dale Satterfield Long and was married to the late Samuel Wilson Satterfield.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia S. Walden and husband Sam of Danville; sons, Eugene Satterfield and wife Barbara of Alton, George Sammy Satterfield and wife Sue of South Boston, Owen Satterfield and wife Barbara of Halifax; a son-in-law, Carlton Williams of South Boston; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Estelle Satterfield Williams.

Graveside services were held Wednesday at Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Bob Woodfin officiating. Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice.
