William Jerome Johnson of Halifax Road, Danville died Friday, Dec. 8, 2017 at Centra Gretna Medical Center at the age of 64.

Mr. Johnson was born in Halifax County on Feb. 12, 1953 and was the son of the late Roland Hayward Johnson and Mary Carrington Johnson. He was married to the late Vickie Johnson and was a member of Denniston Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson was a carpenter and brick mason by trade.

Mr. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Tracey Williams of Alabama and Ursula Walton of Durham, N.C., three sons:, Bennie Yancey of Alton, Jermaine Walton of Greensboro, N.C., and Troy Walton of Danville; 22 grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two aunts, Barbara Claiborne and husband Harold, and Annie Johnson, all of Alton; two uncles, Earl Carrington and wife Patricia of Cleveland, Ohio, and David Johnson and wife Barbara of Virgilina; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Johnson.

A funeral will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 1 p.m. at Denniston Grove Baptist Church, 1031 Bethel Hill Road, Alton with Rev. Spencer Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing hours for family and friends will be Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home in South Boston.

The family will receive friends at the home of Annie Johnson, 3021 Paradise Road, Alton.

Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home.
