William Lawrence Jones, 82, died Sunday, June 21, 2020, in Roanoke.

Lawrence was born in Clarksville and was a long-time resident of Virginia Beach. He was a partner of J. Lawson Jones Construction Company and worked as a contractor, bridge superintendent and project manager for English Construction Company for 54 years. He was known for his ability to mediate challenging problems on the job. He built many bridges and heavy highways in North Carolina and Virginia. 
Lawrence was the son of the late James Gregory and Eura Chewning Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mae Davis Jones; grandson, Bruce Lawrence Jones (Rachel); granddaughters, Marjorie Jones and Kelly Thompson; daughter-in-law, Rita Jones Mitchell (Bobby); sister, Joyce “Cookie” Pharr; and nephews, Steve (Dawn), Greg and Jason Jones; Leonard (Debbie), Allen (Ashley), Randy (Diane), and Jonathan Pharr. He is also survived by special nurse, Tahriana “TK” Kasey and a host of other extended family and friends.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Suzy Jones and son, Bruce Jones; sister, Hattie Smith and brothers, Gregory, Lawson and Alfred Jones.

A funeral was held Saturday, June 27, in the chapel at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home. Burial followed in Ephesus United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
