Dear Viewpoint:

We would like to thank everyone who helped to make the 2nd Annual Ducks on the Dan Derby Duck Race charity fundraiser a big success on Saturday, May 16.

A very special thanks to our great flock of sponsors: the Big Ducks Italian Delight and Palmer Properties; the Rubber Ducky Sponsors Sam’s Club, Caffe Peroni, and Virginia State Parks; the Quacker Backers Stellar Websites, Pacific Headwear, and ABB; the Media Partners WSET, WAKG, and WHLF; the Darling Ducks BB&T, Embarq, ODEC, Carlbrook, and Team Nurse; the Fun Ducks SunTrust, Benchmark Community Bank, and Retail Merchants Association. Thanks also to the South Boston, Halifax and Danville merchants who donated prizes for the event.

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible Logistics Team (a.k.a. “The River Rats”): Head River Rat Extraordinaire Mac McDannald, and his crew Mark Wilkerson, Tom Raab, Gene Haugh, Steve Phillips, and Garland Ricketts. We also thank their River Rats boat crew Jay Crenshaw, Trad Moore, Carlton Gravitt, Anthony Cerame, Hal Henderson, Reed Edwards, Brian Wilkerson, Thomas Bryant, Mickey Wilkerson, Benny Smith, and Matt Gilliam. The Logistics Committee did a great job on establishing a new method for the drop this year with the use of a green box and the box was painted by Forrest Layne and his talented HCMS art students. Also a special thanks to Bo’s Hydraulics.

Thanks to the data entry team led by the E-Quack Queen Volunteer Sharron Warren and her team Melissa Waddle, Courtney McDowell, and Meredith Elliott.

Thanks to our great duck adoption/sales teams - Anne Raab and Barbara Bass with the DAR and Historical Society, FaithFest, American Red Cross, Mental Health Association, Rotary Club, Junior Woman’s Club, and Halifax County Little Theatre.

Thank you to the Quacky race mascot costume wearers - Head Quack Jim Sizemore, Disco Duck Dancin’ David Conner, Bull Ridin’ Nancy Long, Austin Robbins, John Hudert, Tripp Conner, Adam Prevette, Lucky Palmer, Sandy Waggoner, Wayne Fuller and Television Celebrities Meredith Elliott and Tim Vest.

A special thanks to the many volunteers too numerous to mention that helped at the Duck cleaning and tag numbering party, the “It’s Just Ducky” Store, the merchandise booth and duck adoptions booth on the day of the race.

Our BIGGEST Thank You goes out to all of you, our duck adoptive parents. Your support enables Destination Downtown South Boston, Inc. to meet its mission of the restoration & revitalization of the historic downtown business district and help other local charities at the same time. We are already looking forward to the 3rd annual Duck Race and welcome your comments on how we can continue to improve and grow this event. Just email us at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Sincerely,

The Ducks on the Dan Committee: Jerry Van Eimeren, Tamyra Vest, Jim Sizemore, Tom Raab, Wayne Fuller, Tim Vest, Debbie Palmer and Larry Harris
