Haven’t forgotten / November 15, 2012
Dear Viewpoint:

How do the powers that be in Halifax justify the $48.00 solid waste disposal fee for every household? A household with one person isn’t going to have as much trash as a household with several people.

Have the powers in Halifax forgotten they just raised the tax rate on personal property this year too? Do they think that we have forgotten they gave a select group of large landowners a reduced tax rate. Are we living in a federal system like Europe in “The Middle Ages?”

Previously the existing taxes paid the county expenses. Are we having to make up for lost revenue because of the tax break for large landowners? Why not use some Tobacco Commission money to cover the costs? Wasn’t it set aside to cover expenses because of loss of revenue when people had to quit raising tobacco?

Get real,
J.S. Smith
