SoVaNow.com / December 12, 2012Dear Viewpoint,
I loved your editorial, Dec. 5 regarding uranium mining and other subjects (The View From Here, “Into The Abyss”)
When Mr. Hurt was elected the first time, I wrote to him and brought up three subjects.
1. Balance the budget. Cut my Social Security 10 percent if you must, but all other federal congress people, judges etc. should also be cut.
2. If you vote for any earmarks, I will vote forever against you.
3. No uranium mining
I got no reply.
I have written to him five times and got one non-response, response. I know not of his earmark votes.
I have seen no public statement re: mining. Is this because of significant family mining involvements?
Perhaps the solution, given the reality of life with elected officials is simply requiring a bond of $100 million for each downstream county before the go ahead.
Vacuous claims of 100 percent safety will avail us nothing if disaster strikes. Does the world even need this product? Who will benefit except stockholders?
