Rules to live by / November 20, 2014

Dear Viewpoint:

I am responding to the letter sent in by the (Very Rev.) Christopher Doss. The people who were alive when the Bible was written understood what God expected of them, and we should know what it means for us today if we read and study it.

It has always been disappointing to me that people who say they read the Bible can’t see what God’s plan for marriage is in both the old new Testaments. God doesn’t change, and according to His Word, same sex marriage is wrong.

In the Old Testament, God gave rules to go by and blessed those who followed His commands. In the New Testament, Jesus provided the way for all of us to be forgiven when we fail to do what God desires. Jesus gave His life for us so we can confess our sins, be forgiven, and saved to a life of peace and hope.

As a Christian, I can say and know that God is alive, and His Word is not archaic. It is a source of acceptable morality and provides a way for us to know Jesus as our Saviour. In Him, I have peace, joy and hope for the future.

Thank you,
Barbara M. Stevens
