Comet schedule takes beating from weather

Due to rainy weather earlier in the week, the HCHS athletics department now has a full compliment of prep sports scheduled for Saturday, May 9, all at the Comet field.

HVFD Catfish Tournament Saturday

Haifax Volunteer Fire Departmant will be holding its eighth annual Catfish Tournament Saturday May 9 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Staunton River State Park. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffle prizes and food available. All proceeds will go to the fire department for a new truck and supplies. Football in search of defense

Even during the middle of the spring sports season, the HCHS varsity football staff has been busy working on ways to improve the Comet defensive performance this fall. HCHS, 3-7 a year ago, struggled to stop opposing defenses, especially in the rushing game. That area has gotten considerable attention in the off-season.
